Today we headed down to Agua Blanca, it is a beach closer to Puerto Escondido than to Puerto Angel, but it was worth the drive. Our little Chevy is pretty good at getting us out and about, not as fun or as cute as our VW Beetle from last year, however, Adrian is much more comfortable that it won't break down on the side of the dusty bumpy roads!
We brought our beach blankets, umbrella, beer, salsa and chips to the beach and had a great time sitting and sometimes sleeping in the sand.
When it came time for lunch we ate at the restaurant that we were at last year and man was it good! I had Shrimps Diablo (guess what these are:) and Adrian had the Shrimps Ajo (garlic). Both were pretty darn good, but fairly messy as they are cooked whole and you need to pull them apart and peel them yourself.
After reading and swimming and generally lying about we drove into Puerto Escondido for a visit. We sat on Zicatela beach and watched the hoards of tourists and locals. PE is very busy this year. We then travelled to Zipolte beach to have dinner at Posada Mexico, a nice restaurant at the beach.
This year we have noticed many many dogs. They are everywhere, sleeping on the sides of the road, in yards, fenced and a very few on leashes on the beach. Dogs don't seem to be a biting hazard here, they seem very docile and sometimes scared of people. On our way home from the beach on Friday, we witnessed a taxi hitting a puppy:( I cried. The puppy didn't seem to be hurt but the cries!! The taxi didn't even stop to see if he was okay.
This is a harsh place for both man and beast. This part of Mexico is still in survival mode, just trying to feed their families and obtain the basic human necessities, so dogs don't mean that much to them. It sure makes me miss my Molly and Darcie...
Thanks Mom for taking care of them, see you on January 18th.
